Every child is an artist; the problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.
-Pablo Picasso
What is Art Foundations?
Art Foundations is the "Introduction to Art" class here at Taylorsville. In this class, we will be doing just about everything: drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking and sculpture. The idea is to introduce you to a variety of media, so that you can find what you like and take more of those classes while here. If you feel like you "can't draw" or "can't make art", then this is the class for you.
Why should I take this class?
Again, this is an introduction class. It is designed to make you feel comfortable with the visual arts, both in terms of creating and in terms of understanding art. You should take this class so you can learn to express yourself in a variety of ways and learn to speak intelligently about art.
What are we going to study?
In this class we will follow an art historical approach. We will be doing some light reading, some worksheets, and of course, art production. We will explore where our contemporary ideas about art have come from, and how art has evolved from ancient times to the present day.
